In the Oblast hockey de-facto is not only one of the most popular types of sports, but a phenomenon, playing a visible role in the social and cultural life.

The history of the Tyumen hockey starts in 1950 and it is inseparable from the history of the region and the whole country. During over decades the puck experienced different times. There occurred falls, but then, for sure, took place transitions to higher levels. By no means, the club Rubin and its team, which by right possesses the status of the trendsetter in the hockey A League are the crown.

Obtaining high sports results the Tyumen citizens provide for the improvement of the professional qualities of players sending them to different national teams of the country. Meanwhile Rubin continues to develop. The strategic goal of the Club is set clearly: Continental Hockey League (CHL). Comprehending the responsibility of this step to a full extent the Tyumen club is moving to new frontiers gradually.

There has been developed and continues to improve the system of training of the qualified players for the main team. It includes two directions: children's and youth sports school and the team of the Junior Hockey League. The sportsmen of the sports school Gazovik not only compete on equal with their fellows from the leading domestic clubs of the CHL, but defeat them in the championship of the country, tournaments for the Tretyak Cup and other respectable tournaments of All-Russian and international levels. Young players, trained in the system of the Tyumen club, regularly play in different national teams of Russia – from the junior to the national.

The distinctive feature of the reserves training system in the HC Rubin is its multi stage character and focus on individual approach to each hockey player. All players at this or that stage of their carrier possess the opportunity of manifesting their best qualities and reach the level of the main team players.

Already for two seasons in the Youth Hockey League of the HC Rubin there has been playing the team Gazovik, (from the next season it will be named Tyumensky Legion), which is composed of the best graduates of the sports school. While solving serious tournament tasks there grows the level of professional qualities of the young players of the Tyumen team, their readiness to play in the adult hockey. The intermediary link between the sports school and YHL team is the team playing in the regional championship of the country among the teams of the first League.

2012 results

In the season of 2011/12 Rubin was sole leader and as a result won the regular championship of A League in hockey. In 53 matches the team won 41 scoring 159 goals in the gates of their counterparts.

In the play-offs and the games for the Cup of the champion of 
A League Rubin reached the finals.

In 2012 the Tyumen team ended top in the multi month marathon in the championship and in the play-offs played in the finals.

The goalkeeper of the Tyumen club Alexander Sudnitsin played in the national team of the country in the season of 2011/2012.

In the season of 2011/2012 Tyumen was represented in the YHL by the team under the brand name Gazovik.

In the season of 2011/2012 Gazovik became fourth among all hockey schools of the Ural Region and West Siberia.

The Gazovik players – goalkeeper Igor Ustinsky and forward Anatoly Ryabov played in the junior national team of Russia in the international competitions.
