Universiade Infrastructure

In the frameworks of the Games they will use 49 sports facilities. 19 sports facilities had been built in Kazan already before the victory in the contest for the right to hold the Universiade. At present the said facilities are being renovated in order to bring them to the conformity with the requirements of international sports federations.

At the same time during the recent 4 years in Kazan they have built from scratch 28 unique sports facilities, which already serve the citizens and students – 18 sports facilities were handed over to higher schools. At all facilities of the Universiade-2013 they organized free sports classes for the population. Every Sunday any citizen of the city can improve his/her health at the facilities, which already have got the name of the Universiade heritage. Besides this, at the sports facilities they hold large-scale test competitions in the frameworks of the Universiade preparations, there they train sport groups and pupils of the sports schools for children and juniors.

Two largest facilities of the Universiade are approaching the final stage of their construction: the Palace of Aquatics and a football stadium for 45,000 seats, which are planned to be finished this year in March. The football stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the Universiade-2013.

For sportsmen’s accommodation they have built the Universiade Village, the most modern student campus in Russia with 28 houses. Here they also have created the infrastructure, necessary for students’ comfortable living: the most modern health center, the center of public security, public catering unite, sports gear rentals, supermarket, pharmacy and even a beauty parlor. Since 2010 the Village has been home for thousands of students of the Kazan (Privolzhsky) Federal University and Povolzhskaya State Academy of Physical Training, Sports and Tourism.
